Position Summary

The Refrigeration Assembly Technician at Sun Test Systems is responsible for assembling refrigeration systems and sub-assemblies using mechanical assembly and copper tubing fabrication techniques. This role requires proficiency in cutting, bending, fitting, brazing, and soldering copper tubing used in refrigeration and HVAC assemblies. The technician ensures all assemblies meet quality, performance, and safety standards while following drawings, schematics, and work instructions.

Responsibilities
  • Performs mechanical assembly of refrigeration components including compressors, condensers, evaporators, receivers, valves, and line assemblies.
  • Reads and interprets refrigeration schematics, mechanical blueprints, and assembly work instructions.
  • Cuts, bends, routes, and fits copper tubing for refrigeration systems using manual and powered tools.
  • Performs brazing and soldering of copper tubing and joints per refrigeration and HVAC standards.
  • Installs and secures refrigeration and mechanical components using proper fasteners, brackets, and mounting hardware.
  • Performs pressure testing, leak detection, and functional checks.
  • Ensures assemblies meet quality, cleanliness, and workmanship requirements.
  • Maintains accurate job documentation and material usage records.
  • Follows all safety standards including safe operation of torches, nitrogen purging, and handling of pressurized materials.
  • Collaborates effectively with supervisors, engineers, and team members.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Skills & Competencies
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Mechanical assembly experience with refrigeration, HVAC, or related mechanical systems.
  • Skilled in copper tubing fabrication including cutting, bending, flaring, and fitting.
  • Proficient in brazing and soldering copper refrigeration lines.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings, schematics, and mechanical instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail with high-quality workmanship.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and work in physically active environments.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1–3 years of refrigeration, HVAC, copper tubing fabrication, or mechanical assembly experience preferred.
  • Brazing certification (if applicable) is a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time, and reach with hands and arms
  • The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring
  • Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders
  • Must be physically capable of pulling wires and cables through conduits
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
