Job Description SummaryUnder limited supervision, welds metal components together with brazing and variety of arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, plant equipment, motors, and generators and performs manual and/or automated welding using resistance, electrical arc and open flame welding in natural or artificial atmosphere on all materials by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOther duties may be assigned. Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions by using TIG, MIG, ARC, brazing, and/or soldering as appropriate and any combination of arc welding processes. Performs precision welding of metal components using electron beam welding equipment. Reads and interprets technical drawings, sets up and operates welding systems, inspects weld quality, and maintains compliance with safety and manufacturing specification.
Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding. Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts. Reads and interprets design drawings, sketches and verbal instructions and specifications. Exercises judgment, ingenuity and initiative. Demonstrates ability to advise design and engineering personnel in up to the minute developments, new techniques and procedures and materials. Performs precision welding using the highest quality of workmanship.
Demonstrates ability to accomplish all required layout, set up, clamping, fixturing and measuring necessary within assigned tasks without seeking higher technical assistance. Performs all mathematical calculations necessary to complete assigned work. Performs routine repetitive high production tasks as assigned.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide technical leadership to lower-level welders including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization’s policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving technically related work problems.
