Position Description

This position performs carpentry work primarily in support of structural concrete construction. Responsibilities include building, installing, aligning, bracing, and removing concrete formwork and falsework systems for foundations, slabs, walls, columns, and decks. Falsework refers to the temporary shoring and support structures that hold concrete forms and freshly placed concrete in position until the concrete has cured and is self‑supporting. The role requires reading and interpreting construction documents, performing accurate layout, and coordinating closely with concrete crews to ensure safety, quality, and compliance prior to and during concrete placement.

This is a safety‑sensitive position.

Position Qualifications
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain installation access credentials (badging) as required to work on Redstone Arsenal.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Carpenter.
  • OSHA 10 Certification, preferred.
  • CPR & First Aid Certification, preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • In‑depth carpentry knowledge with emphasis on concrete construction.
  • Experience using and maintaining power tools and small hand tools.
  • Ability to take initiative and ask questions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Workers must provide their own safety footwear.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co‑workers and stakeholders.
  • Strong mathematical reasoning and quantitative skills.
  • Reliable transportation and consistent work attendance.
  • Experience in construction layout, blueprint reading, and shop drawing interpretation, preferred.
Essential Duties
  • Oversee and assist with the assembly, installation, bracing, alignment, and removal of concrete formwork and falsework, including temporary shoring and support systems used during concrete placement.
  • Perform layout for concrete construction, including form lines, elevations, embeds, blockouts, and anchor bolts, using blueprints, shop drawings, and field measurements.
  • Support concrete placement operations by verifying form integrity, dimensions, and readiness prior to pours and assisting during placement as required.
  • Use assorted power tools and small hand tools, including ten‑pound sledgehammers, shovels, picks, handsaws, skill saws, and drills to support concrete construction activities.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully understand project requirements and assign crews appropriately.
  • Manage materials related to concrete operations, including form materials, hardware, embeds, and accessories.
  • Monitor project performance and provide updates to management.
  • Coordinate with other trade foremen and superintendents to maintain proper sequencing and workflow.
  • Promote and enforce a safe work environment, communicate jobsite hazards, secure the jobsite daily, and ensure proper material storage.
Physical Work Classification & Demands
  • Heavy Work – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly.
  • Frequently required to walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and use hands and wrists.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps; work from heights; and maintain balance.
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor elements, noise, temperature variations, dust, and construction materials including cement and curing compounds.
  • Prolonged use of power, rotational, vibration, and impact tools including jackhammers and pavement breakers.
  • Must be able to safely wear a respirator and pass applicable medical and fit‑testing requirements.
  • Must be able to hear supervisory instructions and equipment safety alarms.
