About our Department:
The mission of the City of Huntsville Traffic Engineering Division is to provide for the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians, bicyclists, and motor vehicles through the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of traffic control systems. Our staff continually works to upgrade and maintain all signs, signals, and pavement markings at all intersections and roadways within the City of Huntsville.
Traffic Signal Technician I
Position Overview:
This is technical work involving the installation, maintenance, improvement and repair of all traffic signals and automated vehicle control devices within the City of Huntsville. Work involves installing, maintaining, improving and repairing traffic signals; responding to trouble calls; performing on-call duty; performing preventative maintenance; operating specialized trucks and equipment; locating signals and cables for other agencies; directing the activities of contractors;
and building and dismantling signal equipment.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency. College training or coursework in electronics, electricity or welding and soldering and experience in the maintenance and construction of traffic signals is desired.
A valid driver's license.
Must pass the written portion of the CDL, Class B Endorsement test within six (6) months of hire and/or promotion date.
Must pass the driving test and obtain a valid CDL, Class B Endorsement within eleven (11) months of hire and/or promotion date.
IMSA Level I must be obtained within one eleven (11) months of hire and/or promotion date.
IMSA Level II must be obtained within two (2) years hire and/or promotion date.
