Software Engineering Manager

Huntsville, AL. Hybrid position — 1 remote day per week.

We are seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a team of software engineers responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications that support business operations and customer needs. This individual will provide technical leadership, mentor team members, and partner with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions on time.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong software development background, proven experience managing engineering teams, and a passion for building high-performing teams and scalable applications.

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
• Manage day-to-day software development activities, including project planning, resource allocation, sprint execution, and delivery.
• Partner with product managers, business stakeholders, and other technical teams to define requirements and prioritize development efforts.
• Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of software applications.
• Ensure software is built using sound engineering principles, coding standards, and security best practices.
• Drive Agile development methodologies, including sprint planning, daily standups, retrospectives, and continuous improvement.
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to improve code quality and team performance.
• Establish development metrics and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
• Identify opportunities to improve development processes, tools, and automation.
• Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, coaching, and performance management of software engineers.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience managing software development teams
  , including coaching, performance management, and project delivery.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience leading Agile software development teams using Scrum or Kanban methodologies.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, application development, APIs, and system integrations.
• Experience with cloud platforms is preferred.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing software engineering teams.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
