Junior Software Engineer – AI​/ML

Overview

Leidos’ Defense Systems, Threat Modeling and Simulation Portfolio is seeking a talented, entry‑level software developer to work on multiple projects focusing primarily on modeling and simulation efforts within the Threat Modeling and Simulation Portfolio. The role involves collaborating with junior‑to‑senior developers, engineers, and scientists to create unique solutions for complex defense challenges.

• Design, develop, and maintain software applications with AI/ML capabilities and build scalable data pipelines to ingest, process, and analyze large datasets.
• Integrate machine learning models into EO/IR sensor simulations and optimize performance, reliability, and scalability for data‑intensive workloads.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, communicating effectively with management, coworkers, and customers.
• Develop software for both Windows and Linux operating systems.

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, or equivalent with relevant software development experience.
• Strong object‑oriented programming experience.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, or C#.
• Understanding of software design principles and version control (Git).
• Experience processing and analyzing large datasets.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
• Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to Huntsville – North Alabama.

• Highly organized, able to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
• Experience with machine learning frameworks such as Tensor Flow, PyTorch, or scikit‑learn and data visualization libraries (matplotlib, plotly).
• Ability to translate complex datasets into actionable insights for technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Recent academic performance, a Secret or higher clearance, or TS/SCI clearance with CI Polygraph.
