Description
Lockheed Martin Space designs and operates spacecraft, launch‑vehicle avionics, and scientific payloads that must execute precise trajectories, maintain stable attitudes, and perform autonomous maneuvers in the space environment. The Flight‑Sciences Systems Engineer is the technical bridge between flight‑dynamics theory and the hardware/software that implements it. The responsibilities include developing models, algorithms, and analysis tools that predict vehicle behavior, generate guidance commands, and certify flight‑software performance for missions such as orbit insertion, lunar descent, formation‑flying constellations, and re‑entry.
Qualifications- 2+ years of professional experience with a bachelor's degree.
- An active Secret security clearance or higher.
- Ability to work onsite at one of the following locations:
Littleton, CO;
King of Prussia, PA;
Sunnyvale, CA;
Huntsville, AL. - Basic Qualifications: Expertise in one of the following areas:
- Vehicle Modeling & Simulation
- Guidance, Navigation & Control
- Flight Software
- Verification & Validation
- Strong grasp of orbital mechanics, rigid‑body dynamics, and flexible‑body effects.
- Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, STK, and a high‑level programming language (C/C++, Python).
- Experience with estimation/filter design (Kalman, EKF, UKF, particle filters).
- Experience and expertise with one or more of the following areas:
- Space‑flight Science Programs
- Advanced Guidance Techniques
- Sensor Fusion & Autonomy
- MBSE
This position requires a government security clearance. The candidate must be a US citizen. Clearance level:
Top Secret.
Must be able to work onsite at one of the following locations:
Littleton, CO;
King of Prussia, PA;
Sunnyvale, CA;
Huntsville, AL.
Full‑time onsite.
Schedule:
9x80 every other Friday off. Lockheed Martin supports flexible work schedules.
Annual base salary range (varies by location) $89,300 - $157,550 for most states; $102,800 - $178,135 for major metropolitan areas. This is a general guideline. The position is incentive plan eligible.
