Embedded Firmware Developer
Leidos Defense Systems Electrical Systems department seeks an Embedded Firmware Developer to lead design and development of embedded firmware for aerospace and defense systems.
Key Responsibilities- Lead technical design in a fast‑paced environment.
- Oversee all phases of the product life cycle from concept through manufacturing, qualification testing, and post‑delivery support.
- Architect, implement, and test embedded firmware and software on platforms such as FPGAs, microcontrollers and microprocessors.
- Support technical issue resolution during manufacturing and testing, including board‑level troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers, project managers, technicians, and customers to develop solutions that meet evolving requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent from an ABET‑accredited institution.
- Minimum 2+ years of embedded systems design and test experience, or 2+ years with an MS degree.
- Understanding of trade‑offs among embedded system targets (FPGA, SoC, microcontroller, RTOS, bare‑metal).
- Proven experience with programming and hardware description languages such as C, C++, assembly, VHDL or Verilog.
- Experience with communication protocols such as UART, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN bus.
- Hands‑on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debugging methods.
- Capacity for collaborative engineering with multidisciplinary teams.
- Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to Huntsville / North Alabama, AL.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to maintain a Final Secret Clearance.
- Develop overall firmware and software architecture for embedded systems, including FPGAs and SoCs.
- Experience with Xilinx FPGA and SoC families and design tools.
- Firmware testing and verification (unit testing, test benches, hardware‑in‑silicon).
- Knowledge of RISC microprocessor architectures (ARM Cortex, Microblaze, PowerPC, RISC‑V).
- Understanding of memory architectures, types and caching.
- Experience with GNU/Linux and kernel driver development.
- Embedded operating systems:
Linux, VxWorks, Integrity, FreeRTOS, uC/OS‑II. - Electronics and PCB layout design.
- High‑speed interface implementation (PCIe, Aurora, 100
GbE, JESD
204B).
Pay Range: $69,550.00 – $
