Northrop Grumman Space Systems — Missile Defense Integration offers a Principal Software Engineer - BM/SRM (26-216) to support the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders. The role is located in Huntsville, AL, and requires on-site presence with no remote options.
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2
BMC) program enables missile defense operations planning, battle monitoring, and sensor/control coordination worldwide. This position focuses on Java software development for the Regional Applications / Battle Management Sensor Resource Management (BM/SRM) team.
- Perform in-depth analysis and technical support of systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support.
- Work from specifications to develop or modify operating systems applications; assist with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation.
- Interface with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve overall operating-system efficiency.
- Design, code, test, and implement tools for operations automation.
- Work on most phases of software systems programming applications and may require minor instruction or guidance in other phases.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 5 years of experience, or a master’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience, or 9 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Current, active DoD‑issued Secret security clearance required at the time of application.
- Experience and knowledge of software practices such as coding standards, automated testing, automated build pipelines, and configuration management.
- Software engineering and development experience with strong Java/J2EE, C++/OO, or similar language experience.
- Experience developing enterprise applications on Linux (Windows experience also desired).
- Use of common software development and management tools such as Maven, Git/Git Hub, Nexus, and Eclipse.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies.
- Command and control system application development experience.
- Experience with software integration and formal testing.
- Ability to present advanced concepts to non-software engineers, including senior program and military leaders.
- Experience with Dev Sec Ops and/or build management.

Primary Level Salary Range: $ – $. Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and, for certain positions, long-term incentives.
