Senior Flight Mechanics Engineer – supports the development, integration, and testing of 6

DOF trajectory simulation software for NASA’s SLS/ARTEMIS program.

• Analyze launch vehicle and spacecraft dynamics, equations of motion, and trajectories to assess performance of spacecraft ascent trajectories and mission analysis.
• Model ascent and in‑space environments, errors, disturbances, GN&C algorithms, sensors, actuators, and mechanisms.
• Simulate and analyze nominal, contingency, and failure scenarios during ascent and in‑space flight.
• Develop algorithms and tools to analyze 6
  
  DOF trajectories using Monte Carlo techniques.
• Execute and modify existing software/scripts in C, Python, and C++.
• Help develop and improve NASA’s MAVERIC simulation.

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field from an ABET‑accredited institution.
• US citizenship and a STAR .
• Strong experience modeling 6
  
  DOF single‑body systems in MATLAB, Fortran, C++, or
  
  C.
• Programming experience in C/C++, Python, and Bash.
• Familiarity with Linux, Bash, and computational clusters/servers.
• Experience with software or simulation integration, or significant modeling and simulation experience.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and independent problem‑solving skills.

• Dynamic modeling of 6
  
  DOF single‑body systems.
• Creating, editing, and debugging software written in C, Python, MATLAB, Fortran, and C++.
• Optimizing and improving analysis tools and GN&C models.
• Working with GN&C leads and other engineering disciplines.
• Supporting the verification and validation of technical products.
• Creating and reviewing engineering and software documentation.
• Preparing and presenting technical reports and briefings.

• Office‑based work environment.
• Clear, concise, accurate communication (verbal and written, 100%).
• Professional interaction with colleagues, management, and NASA client (100%).
• Domestic USA travel (5%).
• Extended periods of computer use; ability to sit for long periods in meetings and at a desk.
• Use stairs or elevators for access between floors and buildings at NASA and Amentum facilities.
• Standard office equipment usage (computer, telephone, fax, copier, etc.).
• Regular office hours (7:30–4:30pm, Monday–Friday). Occasional overtime (10%) may be required.
• Maintain appropriate grooming and dress; ensure no safety hazards.
• Proof of U.S. citizenship required.
