Position
Sr Principal Software Engineer – TRK (26-140) – Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Huntsville, AL.

- Perform in‑depth analysis, support, design, testing, and user support of systems software, including problem resolution and integration.
- Maintain currency, debug, and configure related software products.
- Develop or modify operating system applications from specifications.
- Design, code, benchmark test, debug, and document programs.
- Collaborate with other system support groups to solve issues, set standards, and improve OS efficiency.
- Design, code, test, and implement tools for operations automation.
- Handle multiple phases of software systems programming; provide guidance in other phases as needed.
- Lead small software‑focused teams when required.
- Current, active DoD‑issued Secret security clearance required at start of employment.
- Academic degree:
Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field plus 8 years experience; or Master’s plus 6 years experience; or 12 years experience in lieu of a degree. - Strong Java/J2EE experience with enterprise application development on Linux (Windows experience also desired).
- Experience applying Kalman filter techniques (EKF/UKF) to sensor fusion, navigation, or tracking problems.
- Knowledge of coding standards, automated testing, build pipelines, and configuration management.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work in a rapid‑paced team environment.
- Extensive experience with Java core libraries and toolkits.
- Demonstrated small‑team leadership: coordinating tasks, facilitating meetings, setting goals (Agile team leadership strongly desired).
- Knowledge of server‑side/database development and computer system administration; experience with net‑centric, horizontal integration programs is a plus.
- Strong problem‑solving skills: reviewing performance, identifying root causes, recommending, designing, and implementing solutions.
- Proficiency with Maven, Git/Git Hub, Nexus, Eclipse, and other development tools.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies.
- Understanding and application of system engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams.
- U.S. citizenship required for all positions with government clearance.
- Experience in command and control system application development.
- Experience with software integration and formal testing.
- Knowledge of Cyber Security/RMF requirements.
- Ability to present advanced concepts to non‑software engineers, including senior leaders.
- Mentoring and teaching junior engineers.
- Experience with performance modeling, microservices, and Dev Sec Ops or build management.
- Experience designing and building graphical user interfaces.
