Senior Flight Mechanics Engineer – NASA SLS/ARTEMIS Program

Position:
Support the development, integration, and testing of 6‑DOF trajectory simulation software for NASA’s SLS/ARTEMIS program.

• Analyze launch vehicle and spacecraft dynamics, equations of motion, and trajectories to assess performance of spacecraft ascent trajectories and mission analysis.
• Model ascent and in‑space environments, errors, disturbances, GN&C algorithms, sensors, actuators, and mechanisms.
• Simulate and analyze nominal, contingency, and failure scenarios during ascent and in‑space flight.
• Develop algorithms and tools to analyze 6‑DOF trajectories using Monte Carlo techniques.
• Execute and modify existing software/scripts in C, Python, and C++.
• Help develop and improve NASA’s MAVERIC simulation.

• Dynamic modeling of 6‑DOF single‑body systems.
• Creation, editing, and debugging of software written in C, Python, Matlab, Fortran, and C++.
• Optimization and improvement of analysis tools and GN&C models.
• Collaboration with GN&C leads and other engineering disciplines.
• Support verification and validation of technical products.
• Creation and review of engineering and software documentation.
• Preparation and presentation of technical reports and briefings.

Education:

A degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field from an ABET‑accredited institution.

Experience:

• Ph.D. with a minimum of 4 years of experience.
• MS with at least 8 years of experience.
• BS with 10‑15 years of experience.

• Must be a U.S. citizen and have a STAR .
• Detail oriented, able to work independently and collaboratively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Dynamic modeling of 6‑DOF single‑body systems.
• Programming experience:
  Matlab, Fortran, C++, and Python.
• Familiarity with Linux, Bash, and use of computational clusters/servers.
• Experience with C/C++ and Python programming.
• Experience with simulation and software integration.
• Experience with 6‑DOF Monte Carlo simulations.

Day‑to‑day activities include:

• Dynamic modeling and software development.
• Debugging and optimization of analysis tools.
• Documentation preparation and review.
• Technical reporting and briefing.

Work environment:
Office setting with domestic USA travel (5%) and extended computer work.
