Job Description
Position InformationTxDOT’s Huntsville Area Office is looking for a Construction Inspector I or II

Salary Plan / Grade:
- Construction Inspector I: $45,521 – $71,055
- Construction Inspector II: $48,244 – $76,028
Work Locations: Huntsville‑Walker County, 580 IH 45 N, Huntsville TX 77320. Travel:
Yes, ~10% of the time. Shift: Day shift, compressed Monday‑Thursday 7:00 am‑5:30 pm.
- Inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure compliance with plans, specifications and safety standards for roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures.
- Act as consultant on work progress and problem resolution; coordinate with engineers, contractors, and project representatives.
- Calculate payments due to contractors, review schedules, and perform material and process inspections.
- Support district maintenance personnel and assist in large, complex construction projects.
- Document work progress and issues throughout project scope.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Education: High School Graduate or equivalent in general high‑school studies.
Experience:
- Construction Inspector I:
None required. - Construction Inspector II: 1 year of experience in construction inspection, engineering support, maintenance, material or process inspection, or transportation‑engineering support. Full‑time or prorated part‑time experience counts. Related college education or technical training may substitute for experience one‑for‑one.
Licenses and
Certifications:
Valid driver’s license; driving a state vehicle is required.
- Exposure to extreme cold and heat (below 32 °F or above 100 °F for >1 hour).
- Exposure to noise and vibration.
- Medium work: lift up to 50 lbs, frequently lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
- Physically demanding; pre‑employment physical examination required.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety‑impact positions; random drug testing applies.
