Responsibilities
  • Administer and operate the General Surgery Residency Program.
  • Teach and conduct scholarly activity, including resident recruitment, selection, promotion, disciplinary action, and supervision.
  • Supervise, precept, and evaluate residents, medical students, and other learners in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Develop and maintain the educational goals and curriculum of the program.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures; prepare statistical and narrative descriptions for accreditation.
  • Maintain relationships with interdisciplinary teams and faculty, ensuring quality patient care and resident education.
  • Develop formal affiliation agreements with participating sites and maintain a continuity outpatient practice.
  • Prepare and implement required program policies and evaluations for teaching staff, residents, and other medical learners.
  • Serve on committees within the residency and sponsoring institution, including the Residency Advisory Committee, Program Evaluation Committee, Clinical Competency Committee, and Graduate Medical Education Committee.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and maintain program documentation.
Qualifications
  • DO or MD degree from a College of Osteopathic or Allopathic Medicine with successful completion of residency.
  • Current AOA or ABMS General Surgery board certification.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice in Texas (or eligibility to obtain one).
  • Preference for primary care physicians with training in osteopathic manipulative medicine; all degrees or specialties are considered.
  • At least five years of expertise in General Surgery, with a minimum of three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience.
  • At least two years of prior experience as a core faculty member.
Experience Required
  • Expertise in General Surgery (preferably five years).
  • Three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience.
  • Previous leadership experience and excellent clinical skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings.
  • Proficiency in teaching osteopathic manipulative medicine (preferred but not required).
  • Academic rank and salary commensurate with experience and training.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with faculty, residents, medical students, outside stakeholders, physician preceptors, and college administration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High‑level proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Zoom, and Teams.
  • Demonstrated personal initiative and adaptability to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
