Associates degree in related field. Three years experience in a related field. Certifications may be required. Preference given to applicants who have experience in international education, international travel, studying, working, or living abroad, or academic advisement. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position

Performs advanced specialist duties for the Global Engagement Center. Coordinates efforts to supporting F-visa and J-visa students and scholars attending Sam Houston State University, which include hosting international student orientations, seminars, and workshops. Provides additional support to the Global Engagement Center on all matters related to the internationalization efforts of Sam Houston State University, which includes international recruitment and admissions, international partnerships, student activities, and staff/faculty engagement.

Primary Responsibilities

Serves as the main point-of-contact for students and scholars who are on F-visas and J-visas, providing support on all aspects related to their academic experience:
Immigration matters, cultural immersion programming, and international recruitment. Immigration:
Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO)/Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) and maintains the immigration statuses of all F-visa (and J-visa students when needed) matriculated. Updates the Student and Exchange Visitors Information System (SEVIS) database as needed. Reviews required documents related to F-visa and J-visa regulations. Monitors the statuses of students under F-visas and J-visas matriculated at Sam Houston State University.

Interprets policies and procedures to maintain compliance. Cultural immersion programming:
Collaborates with GEC staff on the programming of activities that immerses F-visa and J-visa students to the Sam Houston campus community. Represents the department at campus events, orientations, fairs, returnee programs, communication with representatives invited to the campus, and occasional night and weekend events. Provides additional support to the Global Engagement Center on all matters related to the internationalization efforts of Sam Houston State University, which includes international admissions, international partnerships, student activities, and staff/faculty engagement.

International recruitment:
Able to travel domestically and internationally to recruit F-visa and J-visa students to matriculate at Sam Houston State University. In collaboration with campus departments and stakeholders, contribute towards the recruitment strategy towards increasing F-visa and J-visa enrollments. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications

Requires a general knowledge of standard office functions. Requires good knowledge of procedures and practices. Must be able to use standard office software. Must be able to apply policies and procedures and solve routine problems of a repetitive nature.
