Educational and Experience Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, education, or related field. Four years of experience in Graduate Medical Education (GME), adult education, or administrative support in a healthcare system or a related field. Training Administrators of Graduate Medical Education (TAGME) Certification preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position: Performs highly complex administrative and supervisory program work for Graduate Medical Education (GME) Residency and Fellowship Programs.
Primary Responsibilities: Oversees the administration of day-to-day operations of the residency and fellowship programs. Works with both the Residency Director and the Fellowship Director to ensure that both sets of regulatory and accreditation standards are met and educational activities that support both curricula are established. Oversees development of procedures for both the residency and fellowship programs. Oversees and coordinates two recruitment processes, including overseeing applications, interviews, ranking, contracting and onboarding for both the residency and the fellowship.
Supports two accreditation processes, including site visits and annual updates. Assists in identifying training sites for residents and fellows. Arranges audition rotations for medical students and residents. Works with Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM) regional coordinators to process and oversee rotations for 30 medical students, including orientation and EMR access. Interacts with Texas Medical Board, accreditation bodies, and professional associations on behalf of the residency and the fellowship.
Serves as the front-line representative of the program and oversees and represents the program effectively and professionally. Designs routine reports, gathers data, and prepares correspondence. Recommends program guidelines, policies, rules and regulations and assesses the program. Travel planning, invoice preparation, purchasing, and coordination of special events. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications: Knowledge of national accreditation standards for residency and fellowship programs, local, state, and federal laws. Ability to supervise business functions. Communicates with other university departments, personnel, and other agencies. Ability to use critical thinking, take initiative as part of the leadership teams, maintain confidentiality. Good listening skills and positive attitude. Supports growth through professional associations. Proficiency in computer technology, online databases, internet communication and teleconferencing.
