Student Employee – Office of the Dean – Criminal Justice
Location:
McAllen, Texas. Must live in this area and be eligible for Work Studies.
Position:
Criminal Justice Student Worker. Part‑time (20–28 hours per week) with hourly pay of $10.00.
We are seeking a motivated and responsible part‑time student worker to assist with various administrative and operational tasks, including classroom preparation, recruitment activities, and other duties as required.
Key Responsibilities- Classroom Preparation
- Assist in setting up classrooms for lectures, seminars, and other academic events.
- Organize and distribute materials such as handouts, textbooks, and equipment.
- Ensure classroom technology (projectors, computers) is functioning properly.
- Support instructors with last‑minute requests or adjustments.
- Recruitment Assistance
- Help organize and participate in recruitment events.
- Distribute promotional materials and provide information to prospective students.
- Assist in the coordination of virtual and in‑person recruitment activities.
- Maintain and update databases of prospective students and applicants.
- General Administrative Support
- Perform clerical tasks such as data entry, filing, and scheduling.
- Assist with communication efforts, including drafting emails, making phone calls, and preparing presentations.
- Support special projects and events as needed, providing logistical and operational assistance.
- Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Currently enrolled as a student at Sam Houston State University.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software.
- Availability to work 20–28 hours per week.
- Previous experience in a similar role.
- Familiarity with the College of Criminal Justice or academic administration.
Flexible schedule to accommodate academic commitments, with an expectation of pre‑identified recruiting events.
