Nature & Purpose of Position:
Located in Brownsville, TX. Student must live in the area and be work‑study eligible. Motivated, responsible part‑time student worker to assist with administrative and operational tasks, including classroom preparation, recruitment activities, and other duties as required. Ideal for a student seeking practical experience in a dynamic academic environment.
- Classroom Preparation:
Assist in setting up classrooms for lectures, seminars, and other academic events; organize and distribute materials such as handouts, textbooks, and equipment; ensure classroom technology (projectors, computers) is functioning properly; support instructors with last‑minute requests or adjustments. - Recruitment Assistance:
Help organize and participate in recruitment events; distribute promotional materials and provide information to prospective students; assist in coordinating virtual and in‑person recruitment activities; maintain and update databases of prospective students and applicants. - General Administrative Support:
Perform clerical tasks such as data entry, filing, scheduling; assist with communication efforts including drafting emails, making phone calls, and preparing presentations; support special projects and events; provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Currently enrolled as a student at Sam Houston State University.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software.
- Availability to work 20‑28 hours per week.
- Previous experience in a similar role.
- Familiarity with the College of Criminal Justice or academic administration.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate academic commitments, with an expectation of pre‑identified recruiting events.
