Job Title:

Education Specialist – Literacy, Language and Academic Support

Retirees of the Texas Teachers Retirement System (TRS) may apply.Consistent with district policy SD-7.17 “Employment of Retirees,” selected applicants are responsible for reimbursing the district, through payroll deduction, for the current rate of all TRS pension or TRS Care surcharges. As of September 1, 2025, the TRS pension surcharge rate is 16.5% and the TRS Care surcharge is $535/month.

Purpose:

Assist with the implementation and delivery of literacy, language development, and academic support programs designed to improve student achievement. Provide leadership and support for reading, writing, English Language Acquisition services, academic interventions, curriculum implementation, assessment practices, professional development, and related academic initiatives throughout the district.

Qualifications

Education/Certification/

Experience:

Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education in Education, Criminal Justice, Public Administration or a related field.

Five years full-time, wage-earning classroom or correctional education experience.

Valid Texas teaching certification and ESL certification required;
Principal/Mid-Management Certification, or valid out of state equivalent certification preferred.

Demonstrated experience supporting literacy instruction, reading intervention, language development, English Language Acquisition, English as a Second Language, curriculum implementation or instructional coaching preferred.

This position requires personal technology that will enable the completion of job duties and responsibilities when working remotely.

Special Knowledge/Skills

Extensive knowledge of literacy development, reading and writing instruction, language acquisition, and evidence-based instructional practices.

Extensive knowledge of English Language Acquisition methodologies, instructional strategies, and program implementation.

Knowledge of curriculum design, instructional strategies, assessments, and interventions that support diverse learners and varying levels of academic readiness.

Knowledge of adult learning theories and the ability to design, facilitate, and support blended, virtual, and job-embedded professional learning experiences.

Knowledge of district organizational structure, policies, and procedures preferred.

Proficiency in the use of computers and peripheral equipment; working knowledge of personal computer and network hardware, operating systems, software applications, digital curriculum resources, learning management systems, and instructional technology tools.

Skill in analyzing and interpreting assessment, student performance, and program implementation data to guide instructional improvement.

Skill in interpreting and applying rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Strong communication, public relations, collaboration, and interpersonal skills within a diverse community.

Skill in planning, coordinating, and implementing large-scale professional learning activities and literacy-focused initiatives.

Skill in facilitating collaboration, sharing information, and coordinating efforts across departments, campuses, and external partners to improve program implementation and service delivery.

Ability to support educators in implementing evidence-based literacy, language development, and student engagement practices.
