Job SummaryPerforms highly complex network work. Coordinating activities in local (LAN) and wide area (WAN) networks, Internet and intranet systems, while coordinating design and installation, training, monitoring, and analysis of existing hardware and software; evaluating network enhancements; providing leadership and direction. Works under limited supervision with significant initiative.
Essential Functions- Coordinate operational, technical, and support requirements for complex network systems; evaluate policies and procedures to maintain network integrity and contingency recovery.
- Monitor network environment and execute corrective actions for efficient performance; assess hardware and software resources for strengths and weaknesses.
- Assist in preparation and analysis of operational effectiveness and user support statistics; recommend improvements and help implement corrective measures; assist with budget recommendations.
- Assist in developing goals and objectives for field support staff; support use of hardware, software, and utilities, including installation, testing, maintenance, and vendor updates.
- Supervise the work of others.
- Perform any additional marginal duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; major coursework in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field preferred. Additional experience may substitute for semester hours as noted.
- Four years full‑time experience with automated data processing systems (installation of computers, printers, communication devices, servers, office automation) in LAN/WAN environments.
- Experience with current Windows operating systems providing technical support or maintenance in a customer service environment (preferred).
- CompTIA Network+ Certification may substitute for thirty semester hours.
- Cisco CCNA Certification may substitute for thirty semester hours.
- Corning Fiber Installation (CFI) and Corning Fiber Testing & Troubleshooting (CTT) or equivalent manufacturer certification may substitute for thirty semester hours.
- Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure as defined by state law.
- Knowledge of network facilities, data processing techniques, and equipment.
- Knowledge of a variety of computer application programs and their applicability to computer systems operations.
- Knowledge of information systems performance monitoring and capacity management tools.
- Knowledge of personal computer hardware, software, network operating systems, and security software.
- Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, and procedures (preferred).
- Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
- Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies and the public.
- Skill to recognize, analyze, and resolve network problems.
- Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Skill in the installation and maintenance of telecommunications, network, and computer hardware.
- Skill in using computers and related equipment in a stand‑alone or LAN environment.
- Skill to supervise the work of others.
