Student Employee – Academic & Research Technologies – Tech Shop (2 Positions)

Purpose:
To configure and deploy campus-wide computer hardware and software while providing Level 2 technical support.
Supervision Given & ReceivedReceives general supervision and mentoring from Desktop Support Manager and full-time technicians. Collaborates with full-time staff to assign tasks, set priorities, staff training and help oversee day-to-day operations.
Primary Responsibilities- Assist with the configuration and installation of various types of computer systems and peripherals.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues reported through the ticketing system.
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed on tickets that may be assigned to the Student Technician.
- Maintain active communication via phone and email with the client who placed the work order.
- Assist with team-wide projects such as moving department computer equipment to a different location or replacing computers in academic computer labs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Be able to work 15–28 hours per week.
- Be a current SHSU student and be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- Have some experience working with computer hardware and peripherals.
- Have some experience working with the Windows 11 operating system. Experience with macOS/iOS is a plus.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to learn new skills and observe processes, policies, and rules.
- Be able to responsibly balance work and personal life.
- Be dependable.
- Have initiative.
- Be team-oriented.
- Able to carry loads up to 50 pounds.
