POSITION PURPOSE

Under general supervision of the Education & Staff Development Manager, the RN Educator is responsible for teaching theoretical and hands‑on clinical skills to hospital staff, including critical care nursing. Provides education and evaluation to nursing and patient care staff, and facilitates evidenced‑based research within a specialized area of nursing. Collaborates with medical practitioners to incorporate nursing processes into the plan of care for a specialized group of patients.

Performs direct specialty nursing services to patients as required, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and all related policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Provides educational leadership to patients and care providers to enhance specialized patient care within established healthcare setting.
  • Assists patients and caregivers with educational needs, problem resolution, and health management across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborates with medical providers, patient care staff, and unit management in the planning, implementation, and delivery of educational curricula.
  • Initiates skills development programs within the parameters of established care models; monitors trends and implements educational strategies to ensure compliance with quality standards and parameters.
  • Provides direct specialized nursing services to an assigned group of patients, providing specialized patient care within nursing protocols and assisting in the performance of all related nursing duties.
  • Develops patient care plans, incorporating evidenced‑based research and national standards; consults with and serves as a resource to ensure quality patient care.
  • Educates technical and patient care staff in the use of new equipment, supplies, and instruments; coordinates in‑service training and workshops for appropriate staff.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Consistently uses adult learning principles to provide education for hospital staff.
  • Provides educational opportunities that benefit clinical staff at all stages of their career development. Supports staff development with educational activities including: remediation, certification, mentoring, regulatory requirements, and product roll outs.
  • Displays professional behavior at all times serving as an advocate for HMH and advising and instructing staff accordingly.
  • Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory meetings and education requirements.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
LATITUDE, CONTACTS/INTERACTIONS

All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members. Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.

Experience:

At least 5 years of applicable clinical experience required.

Licensure/Certification:
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas required.

Required Skills:

Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational and presentation skills. Thorough knowledge of protocol, procedures and standards within area of nursing expertise.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent: standing, walking, reaching, bending, squatting, and kneeling.

Occasional: sitting, lifting, and carrying.

Visual and hearing acuity required. Work is inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.

Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens.
