& Purpose of Position/Usual Duties
Our Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration ( HVAC ) program prepares students for success in the skilled trades through practical training, hands‑on learning, career‑ready skills, and an industry‑aligned curriculum. We are seeking an experienced HVAC professional with a passion for developing the next generation of technicians to teach courses in our accelerated HVAC program. Prepare students for immediate employment by delivering applied instruction focused on current industry practices, technical competencies, safety, and employer needs.
Teach courses in our HVAC program, helping students develop the knowledge and skills needed to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair residential and commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Courses may include Basic Electricity for HVAC , Advanced Electricity for HVAC , Refrigeration Principles, Residential Air Conditioning, Commercial Air Conditioning, Commercial Refrigeration, Advanced A/C Controls, Air Conditioning Troubleshooting, Residential A/C System Design, Gas and Electrical Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Codes, Technical Customer Service, and Practicum (or Field Experience) – HVAC /R Technology/Technician, depending on the selected candidate's expertise and program needs.
This is a part‑time position, ideal for working HVAC professionals who want to share their expertise and experience with future HVAC technicians.
Delivers engaging, applied instruction in HVAC courses. Develops syllabi, lesson plans, learning activities, and assessments aligned with program outcomes and industry standards. Provides constructive feedback and academic support to students. Maintains current knowledge of HVAC technologies, building codes, safety regulations, energy efficiency practices, refrigerants, and evolving industry trends. Collaborates with faculty and program leadership to continuously improve curriculum, instructional quality, and student success.
EducationalRequirements for the Position (Faculty Positions Only)
Associate degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Building Construction Technology, Industrial Technology, or a closely related field required. Bachelor s degree preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, extensive industry experience, and professional certifications may be considered.
Experience Required for the Position (Faculty Positions Only)Professional experience installing, servicing, maintaining, or managing residential and/or commercial HVAC systems. Previous teaching, training, apprenticeship instruction, or workforce development experience is preferred. Strong commitment to the mission of the SHSU Polytechnic College. Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC installation, troubleshooting, electrical systems, refrigeration, heating and cooling equipment, controls, and applicable building codes and safety standards. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Experience with online learning platforms (e.g., Blackboard) is preferred.
