JOB SUMMARYPerforms moderately complex mediation work. Work involves assisting individuals in resolving various situations; preparing participants for conferences, meetings, hearings, and proceedings; and investigating complaints. Works under general supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- A. Advises on and explains state and federal rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to victim assistance and other specific areas; provides information and assistance regarding agency programs; and communicates with various groups on behalf of victims and offenders participating in the mediation process.
- B. Facilitates the sharing of information between victims and offenders in the Victim Offender Mediation Dialogue (VOMD) program; assists crime victims in initiating mediation with the offender responsible for their victimization; schedules and facilitates mediations; assists victims and offenders in preparing for mediation; coordinates offender visits with appropriate agency or community supervision staff; and schedules travel to various locations statewide to meet with victims and to TDCJ units and parole offices to meet with offenders.
- C. Consults with various groups on issues and procedures concerning mediation proceedings; and assists in gathering and presenting information to coordinate funding, public support, and community involvement regarding mediators and victims.
- D. Assists in planning, implementing, and coordinating the recruitment and training of volunteers to serve as mediators.
- Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
