Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree with SD Teacher certificate (Required) with endorsement Appropriate to teaching assignment.
  • Experience Desired: Appropriate teaching experience.
  • Physical: Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination. Frequent walking, keyboarding, speaking, writing, bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, sitting, reaching, stooping, and turning. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Other: Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills. Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, email, and internet. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and keep information confidential. Adhere to District’s Policies and Procedures. Knowledge in the implementation of the IEP process and special education law.
Essential Functions and Duties
  • Responsible for the daily management and operations of assigned classrooms at the times designated.
  • Plans and designs instruction; selects research-based strategies, methods, activities, and materials specific to content that is differentiated for diverse learners.
  • Uses multiple evaluations and assessments to evaluate student mastery of content and to inform instruction for the class, as individuals, and within diverse groups.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares lesson plan for assigned classes and utilizes online or written plans at times designated by the principal.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior conducive to a good learning environment.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicates these objectives to students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and technology appropriate to the physical limitations of the facilities and the needs and capabilities of the students.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Diagnoses the learning abilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aides and/or volunteers and evaluates their job performance as required.
  • Maintains professional relationships with fellow teachers, administration, parents, and students.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Monitors students during recess, lunchroom, study halls, and in hallways.
  • Supervises extra‑curricular activities as assigned.
  • Strives to help promote safety, health, and comfort of all students within the school district.
  • Promotes a positive image of the West Central School District.
  • Other duties as required by the school board, administration or state law.
  • Leads and participates in IEP meetings and maintains regular communication with parents, providing updates on student progress in accordance with district policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and maintains up to date special education documentation regarding the special education process including referral, evaluation, IEP development and implementation, and related processes in compliance with district, state and federal requirements including timelines
  • A post‑offer criminal background check is required.
