Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
High School diploma or accredited GED Certification required. Associate's degree in civil engineering technology or related field with a minimum of two (2) years responsible experience in surveying, drafting, permit writing, construction inspections, or related experience preferred.
Experience with engineering computer software and AutoCAD systems required. Must possess a valid South Dakota driver's license.
Special Requirements
* Work is performed in both an office and field environment.
• Duties involve remaining in a stationary position, moving about construction and field sites, and positioning self to access work areas, including bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching, as needed to perform inspections and survey work.
• Frequently operates computers and standard office equipment, as well as survey and related field equipment.
• Moves materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; heavier items are moved with assistance or mechanical aids, consistent with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
• Work may be performed in outside weather conditions, including heat, cold, dampness, dust, and moderate noise levels; proper safety equipment and procedures are required.
Miscellaneous Information
* Designs and drafts plans for public facilities, streets, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water main, curbs and gutter, sidewalks, and City projects of a similar nature;
• Uses computer assisted engineering design software and equipment, to include AutoCAD, Excel, ArcGIS, Bluebeam PDF editor, Trimble electronic survey equipment, and Trimble GPS/GIS equipment.
• Provides construction surveying on City projects;
• Inspects all phases of construction work for proper grading, aggregates, construction materials, form and fill, sub-grade compaction, workmanship, and related quality factors;
• Performs such other work as may be directed and assigned. Management reserves the right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time. The City of Huron is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
