The Town of Bennett is hiring a Senior Planner. The Planner roles perform professional land use and municipal planning work, including current and long-range planning, review of zoning and development applications, and implementation of the Comprehensive Plan. Responsibilities scale with experience, from entry-level planning support to leading complex projects and developing policy.

  • Manages projects related to site plans, zoning, and subdivision submittals.
  • Creates annual population studies and works with demographic information.
  • Organizes and conducts meetings with staff and developers.
  • Assists with updates to ordinances and long-range planning efforts.
  • Reviews case proposals for conformance with ordinances and regulations and prepares staff reports and recommendations.
  • Leads the review and development of zoning ordinances and Comprehensive Plan updates.
  • Directs and coordinates planning activities with other town departments and agencies.
  • Analyzes complex land use proposals and makes high-level recommendations.
  • Advises on strategic planning initiatives, community engagement, and special projects.
  • Represents the Town in interactions with officials, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts research on various issues pertaining to the Town’s planning needs.
  • Recommends the use of land for residential, commercial, industrial, and community uses with an emphasis on future planning.
  • Determines conformity with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures and recommends approval or identifies problems and analyzes alternatives.
  • Provides interpretation of the Comprehensive Plan, zoning, subdivision, and sign ordinances.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of municipal planning, zoning, and land use laws.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply planning policies and regulations.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with public officials, community members, and stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of Colorado annexation laws.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Senior Planner:
    Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of four years of progressive planning experience, with leadership responsibilities.

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Certificates and Licenses
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
  • AICP certification preferred.
Work Environment
  • Office setting with periodic fieldwork.
  • Moderate noise level.
  • May require occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
Salary Ranges
  • Senior Planner: $90,600 - $107,500 plus benefits package.

All position levels qualify for a hiring bonus or relocation reimbursement.
