Position: Park Manager (Superintendent)

Summary

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Midwest Region, Jewel Cave National Monument, in Custer, South Dakota.

Major Duties
  • Manage and maintain a positive working relationship with park employees, community representatives, and officials within and outside the Bureau regarding delegated authorities for the management and preservation of cultural, historical, and natural resources.
  • Anticipate future requirements to adjust human, material, and fiscal resources for maintaining programmed service levels and meeting un-programmed needs.
  • Plan and coordinate programs, projects, and activities to achieve successful outcomes aligned with the park’s mission.
  • Recruit, hire, and assign responsibilities to subordinate staff, providing policy direction and evaluating performance.
  • Address inadequate performance through counseling, training, coaching, and resolve staff complaints concerning working conditions.
  • Perform physical duties that may include walking, driving, standing, bending, and occasionally working under stressful outdoor conditions; travel to other areas is often required.
Education

There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.

Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Male applicants must be registered under the Selective Service Registration Act.
  • Valid driver’s license and a Government (or private) motor vehicle operator’s license and driving record must be maintained.
  • Uniform must be worn in accordance with National Park Service standards; a uniform allowance will be provided.
  • Availability for on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and overnight travel as the position requires.
  • Must obtain a Government charge card for travel purposes and maintain any required travel authority.
  • New entrants must complete the Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) within 30 days of appointment.

Other Information

The duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster. Documentation for Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility must include all SF‑50s and performance information for each temporary/term employment period that qualifies.
