Dialysis Technician II

Position Details

Work Shift: Primarily days with possible weekends/evenings/holidays (United States of America)

Location: Avera Gregory Hospital

Worker Type: PRN

Pay Range: $20.75 - $27.50 (actual rate depends on experience)

Performs technical skills related to fistulas, grafts and Central Venous Catheters (CVC) including initiation and termination of dialysis and dressing changes. Contributes to maintenance dialysis for patients requiring hemodialysis under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Identifies intradialytic comorbidities and monitors patient and equipment alarms during treatment, providing appropriate intervention. All staff must meet qualifications to serve comprehensive dialysis patient needs.

• Understand water room equipment operation, complete testing, follow up on abnormal results and complete required documentation.
• Complete dialysis treatments, initiate and discontinue from internal accesses and CVCs, monitor vascular access function and report signs of stenosis, occlusion, or infection to RN.
• Use aseptic technique to initiate and discontinue dialysis on stable patients utilizing CVC access; perform aseptic CVC dressing changes.
• Assemble and prepare necessary treatment supplies, rinse and prime dialyzer, attach and install all required tubing per unit procedure; test and set parameters per dialysis prescription.
• Monitor equipment for safe functioning, respond to alarms, make appropriate adjustments, including blood flow and fluid removal rates.
• Accurately document dialysis access and patient treatment.
• Observe patient during treatments, notify RN of any adverse reactions, and immediately seek RN assistance for dialysis-related emergencies.
• Provide technical assistance to nurses and follow direction from nurses for hemodialysis treatments.
• Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, other nursing staff, and ancillary departments.

• Technical Certificate:
  Completion of Central Line Dialysis Technician Training Program
• Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) – Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) upon hire
• Certified Hemodialysis Technologist/Technician (CHT) – Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT) upon hire
