Job Details
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is hiring a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to provide primary health care services at the WEC Detention Facility (Evergreen) in McCook, NE. The position is under Agency 46. The starting wage is $58.846 per hour for Physician Assistants and $60.428 per hour for Nurse Practitioners. Applications are no longer accepted.
Requirements and Qualifications- Physician Assistant: Graduation from an AMA‑approved Physician Assistant program or completion of the National Commission for Certified Physician Assistants examination; supervisory experience is helpful.
- Nurse Practitioner: Successful completion of an accredited Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner program. Current valid license as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Nebraska.
- Current CPR/ALCS certification (required within one year of hire).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Certification and current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Nebraska.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working as a Physician Assistant in a clinical setting or equivalent experience; experience as a Physician Assistant in a correctional or institutional setting.
Applicants will be required to pass a medical exam and a drug test, and to complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program upon hire.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of life sciences including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, histology and embryology; use and effect of modern drugs; primary care medicine as outlined by the Nebraska State Board of Medical Examiners for Physician Assistants.
- Skills in interacting effectively with interdisciplinary teams, conducting clinical assessments and differential diagnosis, performing physical examination, basic CPR, interpreting laboratory data and x‑rays, performing minor surgery, proctoscopy, treating non‑displaced fractures and casting, and documenting observations and diagnosis.
- Ability to gain the confidence and cooperation of patients, medical staff and students; initiate primary care; communicate orally and in writing with patients, families, nurses, team members and other medical staff; react effectively to medical and psychiatric emergencies.
