Job Overview
The Residence Hall Director (Professional Services Specialist
4) is a 12‑month, live‑in professional staff employee in the Office of Residence Life. The Director is supervised by the Managing Assistant Director and Director of Residence Life or their managerial designee, and is responsible for the total operation of a residence hall or area housing approximately 250 to 1,000 residents.
- Selection, supervision, training, and evaluation of student staff including Resident Assistants, Desk Assistants, and Community Assistants.
- Provide developmental opportunities for residents through programming, judicial intervention, and advisement.
- Handle administrative tasks, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, enforcement of University policy, discipline, and participation in an on‑call system.
- Serve on committees integral to the overall operation of the Residence Life program.
- Create an environment conducive to academic excellence, fostering personal development and a sense of community.
- Work a flexible schedule including evening, weekend, and holiday hours and maintain on‑campus residency; travel is required as needed off campus and to other campus locations.
- Perform essential personnel duties critical to the functioning of the University and continuation of key operations and services.
- Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and one year of professional experience in housing and residence life or a related student affairs position. A Master’s degree may substitute for the required experience.
- Experience with residence hall student development, facilities operations, and residence life programs in higher education is preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, supervisory, and leadership skills; computer literate.
Negotiated annual salary range: $55,142.18 (Step
1). Eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, a retirement plan, and benefits for work‑life balance.
