Quality Assurance (QA) Tech (1st & 2nd Shift)

Performance Pet Products is a manufacturer of canned dog and cat foods located in Mitchell, SD. We are looking for a Quality Assurance Technician to support quality and safety programs on 1st and 2nd shifts.

• 1st Shift: Monday‑Friday, 6:00am—4:30pm
• 2nd Shift: Monday‑Friday, 4:00pm—2:30am (Friday hours may vary)

All activities are performed with GRIT—Generosity, Relationships, Integrity, Teamwork. Ensure Food Safety and Quality Compliance.

• Complete weekly rotations covering various aspects of quality assurance.
• Comply with all regulatory compliance requirements including environmental and food safety.
• Perform routine pre‑operational inspections of facility equipment to ensure sanitation and quality compliance.
• Communicate effectively with personnel and advise them on food safety and quality standards; escalat e concerns to leadership when necessary.
• Monitor temperatures and cook times of canned products; sign off when processes are completed correctly.
• Perform basic visual and equipment‑aided laboratory tests to ensure products meet customer specifications, are sealed properly, free of contamination, and uniform.
• Review finished product for label accuracy, correct can weights and fill levels, and ensure cases are wrapped properly for storage/shipment.
• Maintain accurate daily paperwork to keep the facility audit‑ready.
• Assist in continuous improvement initiatives, such as updating SOPs when needed.
• Follow all company safety policies, practices, procedures, and improvement initiatives.
• Maintain regular and predictable on‑site attendance.

• Experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred; canning experience is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to facility cleanliness and high‑quality products.
• Proficiency with technology and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Ability to work with limited supervision and make critical decisions based on observations.
• Working knowledge of manufacturing and laboratory practices, HACCP, ISO, regulatory guidelines, and company SOPs.
• Effective communication skills with a cross‑functional team.
• Accuracy in recording data on paper and in multiple software programs.
• Ability to pass and maintain Hazardous Chemical Certification.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Experience working with a facility that processes multiple proteins: beef, pork, chicken, turkey, fish, rabbit, lamb, kangaroo, and egg.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

• Stand for the entire shift.
• Frequently lift up to 60 pounds while in Can Pack; occasionally lift up to 60 pounds in other areas of rotation.
• Frequently push/pull up to 25 pounds.
• Frequently climb steps and/or ladders up to 10 feet and perform duties on an elevated surface.
• Frequently walk and bend at the knees and/or waist.
• Ability to tolerate varying environmental conditions (extreme heat or cold, wet/slippery surfaces, high noise levels, strong odors).
