Job Summary
Coordinate and participate in the planning, organizing, supervising, implementing and evaluating of patient services to provide safe, efficient and therapeutic care within hospital policies and national standards. Coordinate work with manager/director, medical staff, professional nursing staff, other departments, and community agencies. Demonstrate proficient and advanced clinical skills in planning and delivering care with long-range implications for a select population.
Responsibilities
- Assist the manager/director on a daily basis with the administration and enforcement of hospital policies as they affect department personnel. As designated, interview, select, recommend, promote, counsel, and discipline personnel within area of responsibility.
- Assume authority and responsibility for decision making and problem solving for the unit(s) in the absence of the manager/director.
- Assume twenty-four (24) hour responsibility for assigned areas as designated by the manager/director.
- Act as a resource with personnel in developing and maintaining skills.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of personnel. Contribute to performance evaluations of other personnel as requested.
- Collaborate with the medical staff to maintain quality patient care through evaluation of continuous monitors and other quality improvement measures.
- Patient Care:
Assist the manager/director with patient care management. Provide input on the quality of nursing care, assist in assuring regulatory agency requirements are met. Participate in hospital/unit committees. Maintain communication with unit staff, physicians, patients’ families, and visitors. Coordinate nursing care with professional nursing, medical staff, and other hospital departments. Facilitate efficient patient transitions throughout the system. - Personnel Management:
Verify competency of clinical skills; coordinate unit orientation programs for new staff and those with special needs. Identify educational needs and provide continuing education. Facilitate professional growth and maintain inservice/education records. Prepare meeting minutes. Arrange education opportunities and problem solving. Enforce policies affecting nursing personnel. Model leadership and foster an environment where questions are welcome. - Fiscal Resource Management:
Assist in fiscal management for the department; assist with payroll functions and updating records; provide input on budgets; educate staff on pay policies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge relevant to patient care: demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by patient ages. Demonstrate competency in assessment, growth and development, and understanding of treatment needs.
Competency Statement:
Must demonstrate competency through orientation and ongoing validation to independently perform tasks as specified in the job description and unit competency checklist.
Common Duties and Responsibilities (Essential duties common to all positions):
Education
Bachelor's Degree (Required). If actively pursuing a BSN, degree must be completed within 2 years.
Experience:
3 years leadership experience in an applicable clinical setting. Grandfathered:
Anyone hired prior to 12/7/2014 will be grandfathered with current education level.

- Registered Nurse (Required)
- Basic Life Support (Required) Within 30 days of hire
