Mix Asphalt Field Labor Technician

Position: Hot-Mix Asphalt Field Labor Technician
Role Overview Contribute to high-quality paving by performing essential ground operations on active construction sites. This position involves substantial physical labor, safe operation of hand/power tools (air hammers, plate compactors, and more), site preparation/cleanup, and occasional operation of utility trucks or other moving equipment.

Key Responsibilities Stage and transport tools: rakes, lutes, shovels, and spray cans of release agents.

Assist in establishing proper traffic control for the work zone.

Deliver water to rollers, plate compactors, the power broom, and other machines as directed.

Work with the foreman to measure and line out the day’s projects.

Safely guide (spot) equipment operators around the site.

Build launch pads at the beginning of each pull for pavers.

Place asphalt mix with a shovel and lute it into a uniform mat.

Support the screed operator by monitoring the head of material; feed mix to the end gate and pull mix to the end gate with a shovel when needed.

Repair surface imperfections behind the screed.

Saw cut concrete and asphalt when assigned.

Safety & Compliance Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all safety policies and procedures and using appropriate tools/equipment for each task.

Wear required PPE at all times.

Report tool or equipment malfunctions promptly to the foreman or supervisor.

Communicate customer issues/concerns to management.

Site Readiness & Wrap-UpKeep job and excavation areas clean and organized.

Ensure trucks remain clean inside and out, including windows and mirrors.

Clean tools, equipment, and spray cans; fill tanks at shift end; return all tools and materials to the tool truck.

Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Work Environment Expect hands-on construction work with shoveling, laying asphalt, heavy lifting, and consistent movement throughout the shift.
