Job Summary

Assist in the installation, maintenance, rearrangement, operation, removal and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. Drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment. This list is not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions. The following reference is provided as a guideline for persons responsible for directing the duties and responsibilities of assigned personnel, to assist in the safety and development of employees, and is not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions: DIRECT SUPERVISION
- When a qualified person is working with/hands-on with the person performing the designated task. IMMEDIATE SUPERVISION
- When a qualified person is near the structure/equipment and is in constant visual and/or verbal contact to the person performing the designated task. GENERAL SUPERVISION
- An employee of equal or higher classification, knowledgeable of the task at hand and not necessarily at the job site. QUALIFIED PERSON
- Line Mechanic or Supervisor who is knowledgeable of the task or work to be performed, and is capable of performing the appropriate emergency rescue.

Job Description

Please note the selected candidate must live within 45 minutes of the Hurricane Transmission Service Center (346 Raymond Peak Way Hurricane, WV 25526)

What You'll Do:

  • Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules, regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
  • Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect conductors, fixtures, and other associated equipment on overhead facilities.
  • During the first six months in this classification, the employee must demonstrate the ability to operate Company equipment, climb poles and structures, work from bucket trucks or on ladders and be at ease above the ground while performing the work.
  • Supply employees working aloft the necessary tools and equipment required in the work.
  • Assist in setting poles, including poles in energized areas where proper personnel protective procedures are used
  • Cut, spray or stack trees and brush while performing transmission right-of-way control.
  • What You'll Need

    Education requirements: High school graduate or GED

    Work Experience: No previous work experience required. Line work experience or line school education is preferred.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    Must be available to work overtime, call-out overtime and shift work, as required. Travel requirements are expected > 50 % of the time. Physical demand level is Heavy and requirements details are listed below:

    Distance in feet to climb and work on a ladder/structure: 100 ft and higher

    1. This job requires "recommended" test results from Hire Vue Line Worker Virtual Job Tryout. This assessment is completed online, is untimed, and typically takes about 45 minutes to complete.     2. Must demonstrate the ability and desire to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities of the key job (Transmission Line Mechanic

    3. Must acquire within such time frame as determined by the Company, the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of the next higher classification in the line of progression, or vacate the current job classification.

    4. Employee shall obtain the appropriate valid commercial driver's license prior to the end of the designated probationary period unless additional time is needed and is authorized by management. Must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.

    5. Must possess the ability to deal with employees, customers and the general public in a courteous and proper manner.

    6. Considerable travel and overtime may be required with this position.

    7. Must successfully complete Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
