Special Education & Reach Adsis Education Assistant

Hutchinson Public Schools is seeking a special education and reach adsis education assistant at the high school for the  school year and beyond. Special education assistants get to work directly with our students and can make a significant impact on our students' education experience. As a special education assistant you will assist individual students who are on an individual educational plan (IEP) by providing support, explanation, re-teaching and instructional help for students.

This position will work at the high school with special education students and in the reach room as adsis education assistant. This position will work 175 days per year, 6.5 hours per day. The salary range for this position is $19.59 per hour - $22.09 per hour. Salary is dependent upon education and experience.

Responsibilities include:

carry out the IEP goals as designed by the teacher, help to reinforce the teachings of the classroom teacher by working with students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, help students strengthen their skills to become more independent, assist the teacher with crisis problems and behavior management, observe, record, and chart behaviors, confer and plan with teachers to recommend ideas, identify problems, and aid in problem-solving, help the classroom teacher with recordkeeping of the student's progress, conducts informal assessments to measure students' mastery of learned materials as directed by the classroom teacher, maintain confidentiality standards by adhering to the district's data privacy policy, attend meetings and in-service for staff development, and follow suggestions made by classroom teachers, the principal, and others who may provide staff development.

Required qualifications (one of the following): associates degree, 60 semester college credits, passing score on one of the state-approved tests (para educator or parapro) competency grid.
