Job SummaryPlans and delivers professional nursing care to patients.
Essential Responsibilities- Provides care to patients under the direction of a physician.
- Mentors, develops and trains new staff and students.
- Performs acts within scope of practice as defined by the licensing board.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care as described in unit/department-based competencies, policies, and procedures.
- Accurately evaluates patient needs and maintains comprehensive care plans within scope.
- Promotes patient independence by establishing care goals and including patient and family in discussions regarding medical issues, testing, medications, and self‑care skills.
- Provides accurate administration and evaluation of medication, manages medication orders, and delivers medication to patients in a timely manner.
- Educates patient and family on physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects of care, disease process, symptom and pain management, and signs and symptoms of death (when appropriate).
- Completes timely and accurate documentation per Health System/affiliate policy.
- Observes patients’ physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual conditions and reports changes as directed.
- Acts in accordance with established mission, vision, and values.
- Abides by HIPAA privacy and security regulations regarding PHI.
- Maintains effective communication and professional relationships with patients, families, team members, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current RN license in Kansas or a compact state.
- Current BLS/CPR card from an approved provider (within 30 days of hire or by end of orientation).
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIHSS, AWHONN may be required per department policy.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Previous experience in a similar environment.
- None specific.
- Apply basic principles of nursing.
- Communicate effectively.
- Keyboarding and basic computer skills.
- Multi‑task and prioritize.
- Occasional exertion up to 100 lbs; constant up to 20 lbs.
- 51–75% of the day may be standing or walking.
