Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE)

The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) provides timely, non-judgmental, compassionate, and trauma-informed care to any victim and/or perpetrator of violence, both intentional and unintentional.

• Perform acts that are within the scope of practice as defined by the applicable licensing board.
• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients as described in unit/department-based competencies, policies, and procedures.
• Accurately assess patient needs and develop, implement, review, and maintain a comprehensive care plan.
• Evaluate and provide care as directed to achieve desired patient outcomes for patients newborn through geriatric.
• Perform quality assurance functions to include maintenance of chain of evidence, documentation appropriateness, referrals, preparing and interpreting reports, and following mandatory reporting requirements.
• Educate the patient/family on physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects of examination, treatment, and care.
• Coordinate the preparedness of documents, testimony, and case facts to be presented as necessary.
• Complete timely and accurate documentation as per Health System/affiliate policy.
• Meet scheduling requirements, including nights, weekends, holidays, and call.
• Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
• Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

Perform other duties as assigned.

This position does not have people management responsibilities.

• Graduate of an accredited RN program.
• Completion of a 64‑hour course or two 40‑hour IAFN SANE training courses within six months of hire date.
• Minimum of one year of acute care experience.
• Current BLS/CPR card from an approved provider within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first.
• Current ACLS and PALS within six months of hire date.
• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Kansas Board of Nursing or a compact state.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• SANE‑A and SANE‑P certification.
• Basic computer skills, multi‑tasking and prioritization, effective communication, cultural and age‑related diversity awareness, ability to remain calm in stressful situations, and a compassionate, empathetic approach to patient care.

• With or without accommodation.
• Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs; constantly lift up to 10 lbs.
• 26‑50% of the day may involve standing or walking.
