Special Education Assistants at West Elementary
Hutchinson Public Schools is seeking two Special Education Assistants at West Elementary for the Kindergarten Connection program. Special Education Assistants work directly with our students and can make a significant impact on our students' education experience. As a Special Education Assistant you will assist individual students who are on an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) by providing support, explanation, re-teaching and instructional help for students.
There are two positions available, the first position will work 15 days, 6 hours per day. The second position will work 6 days, 6 hours per day. The Kindergarten Connection session runs from July 13, 2026 - August 12, 2026. The salary range for this position is $19.59 per hour - $22.09 per hour. Salary is dependent upon education and experience.
Responsibilities include:
carrying out the IEP goals as designed by the teacher. Help to reinforce teachings of the classroom teacher by working with students on a one to-one basis or in small groups. Help students to strengthen skills to become more independent. Assist the teacher with crisis problems and behavior management. Observe, record, and chart behaviors. Conferring and planning with teachers to recommend ideas, identify problems, and aid in problem solving.
Help the classroom teacher with recordkeeping of the student's progress. Conducts informal assessments to measure students' mastery of learned materials as directed by the classroom teacher. Maintain confidentiality standards by adhering to the district's data privacy policy. Required qualifications (one of the following):
