Job Summary

The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner provides personal, direct care to patients with acute and/or chronic illnesses. The provider assesses individuals using history, physical exam, and appropriate diagnostic tests/X-rays. They formulate, implement, and evaluate patient care management according to practice guidelines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure the plan of care for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient populations reflects an understanding and ability to obtain information, perform assessment, and react effectively to the unique needs of these patients.
  • Gather assessment information that reflects physical, psychosocial, developmental, and cognitive data specific to the age of the patient, and understand the range of treatment needed.
  • Provide urgent and acute care efficiently and accurately.
  • Provide ongoing patient education and counseling.
  • Treat acute and chronic problems efficiently and accurately resulting in patient satisfaction.
  • Provide timely chart documentation that is accurate and thorough.
  • Order labs, x-rays, and diagnostic tests to facilitate correct diagnosis in a cost‑efficient manner.
  • Determine when a patient’s problem is serious enough to transfer the patient to a higher level of care.
  • Participate in community health programs that promote wellness and health education.
  • Utilize appropriate sourcing of supervising physician for clinical decision‑making support.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
License/Registration/Certification Required
  • Nurse Practitioner certification.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota.
  • Certification by National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA).
  • BLS required.
Experience And Skills
  • Experience in ongoing care of adults and children in a rural clinic is desirable.
  • Sound knowledge of diagnosis, evaluation, and management of acute and chronic family medicine, including history taking, physical examination, ancillary lab and radiology testing, and basic treatment plans. Use of consultation with physicians and allied health staff is critical.
