Our quality team at Tesla is seeking an Analytical Chemist with a strong background in analytical chemistry, material testing, methods development, and problem-solving methodologies.
This candidate will be a core member of an interdisciplinary materials and process development team that is focused on developing innovative technologies to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. The candidate will be working in the analytical lab and leading the commissioning, operation, maintenance of analytical instruments, developing new testing methods and validation protocols.
What You'll Do- Oversee a quality lab responsible for supporting materials engineering and method development
- Ensure hundreds of recycling, battery materials, and lithium refinery samples are accurately analyzed and published weekly
- Develop state-of-the art methods to characterize advanced materials and intermediates
- Procure, install and operate state-of-the-art analytical tools
- Oversee key techniques like particle size analysis, moisture content, tap and bulk density, XRF, XRD, FTIUR, TGA, viscometry, pH, ICP, AAS, combustion analysis, LOI, specific surface area (BET), SEM
- Ensure analytical samples (hundreds/week) are performed and that CoAs are issued in a timely fashion
- Research, develop and validate new analytical methods for a variety of applications and instrumental techniques
- Develop and implement new standard operating procedures and provide training to team members
- Characterize new materials and develop specifications. Interpret test data and generate test reports
- Support ICQ/OCQ and CRM requirements for lithium refining, battery recycling and new materials programs
- Quantifiable analytical lab experience with tangible results
- Degree in Materials Science or a related field with a minimum of 7 years industrial experience or equivalent experience
- Excellent communication and data write-up skills
- Proof of lab management experience including number of employees, number of samples, number of instruments, etc.
