Under the general supervision of the City Engineer, the Permit Technician provides information to the public on City of Hutto engineering codes, ordinances and departmental procedures. Issues and processes permits and verifies applicable contractor licenses and enters appropriate information in the City of Hutto database. Oversight of certification process to ensure contractor is authorized to do business in the City of Hutto which may include the scheduling of exams, determination of type of license required and processing required information.
ESSENTIALDUTIES
- Provides excellent customer service to city staff and external customers by email, phone and in-person regarding development regulations, policies, applications and process requirements.
- Responds to routine inquiries and questions and directs more complex inquiries to appropriate personnel.
- Assists in the processing and coordination of all engineering submittals including but not limited to ROW permits, SER applications, drainage studies, flood studies, traffic studies, construction plans, and site plans.
- Works closely with city inspectors and contractors to coordinate the process for project inspections, closeout, and acceptance.
- Enters all application packets and other permits into specialized software.
- Routes applications for review.
- Monitors and maintains records, files, and documentation using specialized software.
- Updates and revises department webpages as directed.
- Maintains confidentiality of non-pubic records.
- Accepts applications and conducts completeness checks and fee calculations
- Provides support to review and inspection staff as required to ensure a streamlined development process.
- Provides support in advance of city board and commission meetings
- Researches and compiles information from sources such as maps, departmental data, other jurisdictions, customer surveys, inspections, and notes for use in a variety of reports, plans, and presentations
- Routinely provides reports to internal parties
- Collects all project related fees, prepares deposits and enters data into financial software
- Establishes and maintains all divisional records.
- Monitors permits for completion and notifies applicant of expired permits.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
