Under general supervision, the Supervisor Controls and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Technician performs a variety of technical tasks in support of the SCADA system to include calibrating equipment, performing overall maintenance and correcting problems with equipment; providing technical support; serving as first responder to outages and equipment failures: coordinating work; and documenting work activities. Works under the leadership of SCADA Superintendent for water treatment, water distribution and wastewater collection system.
ESSENTIALDUTIES
- Programs SCADA by developing new code; querying the historian; edits existing programs; archives programs; works with software such as, Wonder Ware, INSQL, and Modicon Concept.
- Repairs and maintains SCADA by diagnosing problems using schematic drawings, monitoring software, and digital test equipment, repairs, replaces and reprograms by diagnosis; performs routine maintenance on SCADA system components; performs visual and machine aided inspections, installs and installs and inspects weatherization.
- Builds SCADA by assembling parts to form a working product; tests assembly prior to deployment; deploys. Assembles, and integrates field and human machine interface.
- Maintain UPS equipment by diagnosing software to measure uninterruptable power supply capacity; replaces batteries if capacity is low; replaces UPS if unit fails.
- Calibrates instruments by using test equipment; performs periodic calibrations to verify monitoring instruments are within limits; directs other to perform calibrations. Work with manufacturers of SCADA system and field instruments to plan, install, maintain, and repair existing and new field equipment/devices.
- Knowledge of installing and maintaining process control equipment including PLCs, RTUs, hubs, switches, and routers
- Knowledge with configuring and troubleshooting process control instruments
- Knowledge with installing and maintaining servers, workstations and human interfaces (HMI) for water and wastewater systems used in the Water Industry.
- Skill in running PC windows and Unix
- Skill with programming and configuration of intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and remote terminal units (RTUs) using ladder logic and IEC Programming languages.
- Ability to install and maintain fiber optic cable, twisted pair cables, multi-pair cable and coax cable technologies.
