Job DescriptionJob Goal: To create and sustain a flexible primary program and a classroom environment that is favorable to learning and personal growth of pupils; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge; and to evaluate their educational foundations in accordance with each child's ability. Aligns with the vision and mission of BCIS.
Qualifications- Possess appropriate certification and degree(s).
- Have knowledge of children based on both formal learning and/or practical experience.
- Reports to:
Principal.
- Understand child growth and development.
- Maintain responsibility for relating teaching methods and materials to the growth and development of primary age children.
- Consider interest level and attention span of children in all activities.
- Recognize symptoms of vastly superior and inferior pupil performance and seek appropriate referrals.
- Demonstrate the use of vocabulary appropriate to children of the primary grades.
- Use known physical, mental, social and emotional traits as a basis for learning.
- Display initiative and creativity in providing learning activities.
- Plan for a long‑range and short‑range instructional program consistent with school/system curriculum.
- Handle long‑range units for the year, approximate time frame for general outcome (goal) for each unit.
- Prepare short‑range objectives for present unit, weekly plan of objectives and activities.
- Develop a one‑day lesson plan for substitute (activities/skills).
- Diagnose learning needs of students using appropriate instruments.
- Utilize appropriate teacher‑made tests to match objectives.
- Use results of unit assessments to continue or modify learning activities and teacher plans.
- Maintain cognizance of system time allotments for subjects.
- Ensure that clear and timely objective interpretations are offered to parents and students on their progress.
- Keep appropriate records, administer and use standardized tests, and prepare progress reports.
- Organize the physical environment to provide for basic comfort, health and safety of children.
- Establish positive and consistent standards of behavior which reflect an understanding of primary‑age children.
- Conduct routine and clerical chores efficiently, accurately and promptly.
- Use good planning and student motivation as management tools.
- Solicit appropriate help of parent(s)/resource staff and principal as aids to classroom management.
- Use the instructional program, when appropriate, to encourage citizenship and responsibility.
- Manage class time efficiently.
- Demonstrate and reinforce mutual respect among students.
- Use positive reinforcement and encouragement with students.
- Cooperate with fellow teachers, administrators and other staff to maintain a positive school and system climate.
- Listen and respect the opinions of other staff.
- Communicate effectively with staff and parents.
- Foster tolerance and understanding of ethnic, cultural, racial and religious differences.
- Improve and maintain professional competence through in‑service, formal coursework and readings.
- Share ideas, materials, and methods with colleagues.
- Protect confidentiality of information about pupils.
- Utilize prescribed district and association channels for solving problems or grievances in a constructive manner.
- Use oral and written English correctly in the exercise of the professional assignment.
- Accept, consider and use suggestions and criticisms in a responsive manner.
- Cooperate in the development and support of school and system policies.
- Participate in curriculum development or review.
- Set a strong example of good hygiene, manners and self‑control.
- Display a personal interest in students as individuals.
- Maintain good humor, enthusiasm, initiative and integrity with students, staff and parents.
- Cooperate with administrators, staff members, parents and pupils in developing and supporting school activities.
Other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Terms of Employment and SalaryThis is a School Year position. (183 Days)
