Supply Chain Services Intern

Purpose of Position:

Assist the Department Directors, Managers, Supervisors, and the purchasing and central distribution teams by performing a variety of administrative and support duties to gain a comprehensive overview of managing the many aspects of hospital supply chain operations.

• Become familiar with Cape Cod Healthcare Purchasing and Supply Chain departments and its operating systems. Understand operating parameters of systems – know why they are necessary.
• Understand the functionality of the Peoplesoft Finance and Supply Chain system and understand the capabilities of system. Be able to make recommendations to system that will increase efficiency and/or operational ease.
• Analyze logged data for expired item quantities and dollar value. This may include efficiency calculations and recommendations for additional reporting needs.
• Understand operations including the Value Analysis Teams by shadowing the Manager of VA, including attending meetings, taking minutes, researching competitive products and creating evaluation criteria for pilot programs.
• Shadow Senior Manager of Contracts to review and understand standard terms and conditions, taking into account nuances for the service, product or any additional obligations, learning to minimize risk ultimately to independently take a first pass/ first look at redlining contracts. Understand and utilize the functionality of Cape Cod Healthcare’s GPO and Corporate Contract Management Systems.
• With the Director of Supply Chain Operations, learn the many aspects of Life Safety, NFPA and Joint Commission preparedness as these critical inspections cover every aspect of hospital operation and the environment of care. Additionally, local and state site inspections and preparedness for these inspections will be covered.
• Review and shadow with the Purchasing Manager for all aspects of the procure to pay processes, including the requisitioning system, management of purchase orders, reporting of invoice exceptions and product recall management.
• Partner with clinical staff (nurses, physicians) and inventory technicians during shadowing rotations to understand the impact of supply chain management on direct patient care.
• Work independently on assigned projects. This may include collecting, analyzing data; tracing and documenting operating systems; researching products.
• Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to read, write and communicate in English
• Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent
• Actively enrolled in Degree program
• Knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with a high attention to detail

40PP (20 Hours Per Week), Rotating Days, between the hours of 8a-4p, No Weekends, No Holidays
