Staff Assistant (Administrative Aide 2G)

This position is limited term grant funded (LTGF). Positions designated as limited-term grant-funded are temporary in nature and the employment period is contingent upon the grant's continued funding availability.

The Prince George's County Department of Social Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Staff Assistant (Administrative Aide 2G) position, grade G15, in the Community Services Division.

About the Position

This is full performance level secretarial/administrative type work designed to relieve an important official of administrative detail. Under general supervision, incumbents perform varied and responsible secretarial and administrative work often of a technical nature and difficulty. Incumbents typically determine appropriate steps to independently complete assignments according to established procedures, referring to the supervisor when necessary. Incumbents may perform routine office management duties and provide technical guidance to subordinate employees.

Work requires a broad knowledge of County government functions, programs, and sources to receive and provide information or make referrals relating to the programs of the assigned department/agency. Incumbents at this level report to the head of one of the smaller independent boards or commissions or to an administrative supervisor (generally grades G-24 to G-27). Work performance is evaluated in terms of accuracy and timely completion of projects and assignments.

Examples of Work

  • Provides day-to-day administrative support to food security programs and initiatives.
  • Assists with scheduling, coordination, and logistical arrangements for meetings, program activities, and events.
  • Supports preparation and distribution of program materials, correspondence, and documentation.
  • Assists staff with routine operational tasks to ensure efficient program functioning.
  • Serves as a point of contact for internal staff, community partners, and the public, as appropriate.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests for information with professionalism and accuracy.
  • Supports coordination among County departments and external partners by sharing information and tracking follow-up items.
  • Contributes to a professional, respectful, and inclusive office environment.
  • Accurately enters and maintains program data, records, and files.
  • Assists with basic data tracking, spreadsheets, and routine reports as directed.
  • Supports recordkeeping related to program activities, services, and outcomes.
  • Organizes and maintain complete and auditable documentation to support compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Assists with documentation, eligibility verification, and reporting processes, as applicable.
  • Supports audits, reviews, and inspections by maintaining organized and compliant records.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate with coursework in typing, office practices or other related clerical subjects.
  • Successful completion of probationary period of nine (9) months at the Administrative Aide I level; or one (1) year of advanced diverse and/or technical clerical experience which must have involved working with the public for at least one (1) year.
  • One (1) year of secretarial training above the high school level.

An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. EACH APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE INFORMATION THAT CLEARLY DEMONSTRATES THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION. Additional Eligibility Criteria Candidates deemed as meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to complete and pass an online Administrative Aide examination. Applicants who have previously taken and passed the exam on or after 8/1/2024 will not be required to re-test.

Previous passing test scores will be applied.
