About Us

We are a small firm with a big caseload. Our practice focuses on employment law matters, including discrimination, harassment, wage and hour claims, retaliation, and other workplace disputes. Our size allows for collaboration and direct client contact, while our workload offers significant opportunities for professional growth and advancement.

About the Role

We are looking for an attorney with 3-8 years of employment litigation experience who is ready to hit the ground running. The ideal candidate can manage cases independently from initial consultation through litigation and resolution, while also collaborating effectively with colleagues.

Responsibilities
  • Handle employment law cases from intake to resolution with minimal supervision
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and legal memoranda
  • Conduct legal research and analysis
  • Represent clients in administrative proceedings, mediations, depositions, and court hearings
  • Maintain excellent communication and rapport with clients
  • Collaborate with other team members to strategize and achieve favorable outcomes
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice in the District of Columbia and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia (required)
  • Admission to practice in Maryland and/or Virginia state and federal courts strongly preferred. Candidates barred in Virginia and the Eastern District of Virginia will be given priority consideration.
  • 3-8 years of employment law experience, ideally representing employees in litigation
  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a client-centered approach
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a busy caseload independently
Compensation

This role may be offered as a full-time position with benefits or, preferably, as a 1099 independent contractor engagement
, which may be eligible for higher compensation
. Pay is competitive and based on experience and qualifications
. Attorneys admitted to additional state or federal bars beyond D.C. may be considered for increased compensation.

Remote Work

CEJ has an office in downtown D.C. that is always available, but our staff works principally remotely. We gladly consider applicants who live outside of the DC area so long as they remain responsible for transportation to DC as their caseload requires.

Opportunities for Advancement

As CEJ continues to grow, there is potential for increased responsibility, partnership opportunities, and involvement in firm management for the right candidate.

If you’re looking for meaningful work in a collegial environment where you can make a difference in the lives of employees, we’d love to hear from you.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume, a cover letter detailing your relevant experience and interest in employment law, and a writing sample to Admin@c
