OverviewThe primary purpose of this position is to provide direction, support and resources to support the Giant Food distribution center. Working directly with site leadership, the Safety Specialist will help manage the inherent risks of a 500,000 sq foot, 500 employee perishable distribution center. We seek a motivated safety professional that can identify and evaluate risk exposures and develop and strengthen existing programs and processes to reduce risk and improve safety performance.
This position will work closely with supply chain leadership in setting safety performance targets, educating management and associates, measuring progress and establishing/executing plans for continuous improvement.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. This role is open to the Jessup, MD location.
This role is open to the Jessup, MD location and is onsite 5 days per week, providing support to all shifts.
Responsibilities- Responsible for deploying, implementing, and help lead the company safety strategy within the Giant Fresh Distribution Center by integrating safety practices, standards and compliance to operations management.
- Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and systems including making updates and modifications as needed.
- Responsibility for supporting safety processes to minimize worker injury risk
- Support implementation and execution of company health and safety policies and procedures, and State OSHA regulations
- Identify and incorporate best practices to continuously improve safety systems and practices
- Teach, coach and mentor leadership on safety, regulatory expectations and best practices related to safety.
- Deliver safety training programs for associates and leadership.
- Conduct internal safety assessments, lead safety committee meetings, partner with HR, Operations and Workers Compensation related to associate injuries including OSHA recordability, investigations and preventative measures to prevent similar incidents.
- Bachelor's Degree
- 1-5 years experience in safety management
- Strong coaching, training and motivational skills: ability to lead preferred
Skills and Abilities:
- Understanding of warehouse and distribution operations.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, EPA and other governmental regulations.
- Ability to influence leaders and associates
- Good presentation skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good analytical skills

- Organization & Planning
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
MD Salary Range: $72,880 - $109,320
Actual compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on their unique qualifications and experience, internal equity, and market conditions. Final compensation decisions will be made in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
