Junior Microbiologist – Product Development & Scale

Position: Junior Microbiologist – Product Development & Scale-Up
We are seeking a  Junior Microbiologist  to develop and scale-up fermentation-based active ingredients from lab to commercial production. The role involves strain optimization, media development, process control, and downstream processing to ensure high yield and stability. The candidate will troubleshoot scale-up challenges and support product performance and shelf-life studies. Strong expertise in industrial microbiology and hands-on fermentation experience is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development & Optimization
Develop and optimize  microbiology-based active products  (enzymes, probiotics, prebiotics, bioactives, fermentation-derived actives)
Strain handling, maintenance, and  performance optimization
Media optimization for  yield, stability, and cost reduction
Process parameter optimization (pH, temperature, aeration, agitation, time)

Scale-Up & Process Development
Scale-up from  lab scale → pilot scale → production scale
Hands-on experience with  bioreactors / fermenters
Troubleshooting during scale-up and batch failures
Downstream processing:  cell separation, filtration, concentration, drying (spray/freeze)

Stability & Performance Evaluation
Conduct  stability studies  and shelf-life optimization
Evaluate  activity retention  post-processing
Support preservative systems and microbial control strategy

Required Skills:

Strong knowledge of  industrial microbiology & fermentation
Experience in  scale-up of microbial actives
Hands-on knowledge of  media design and fermentation control
Understanding of  downstream processing

Good analytical , troubleshooting, and documentation skills
Experience in  cosmetic / nutraceutical / agro / pharma microbial actives is a plus
Knowledge of  prebiotics, lysates, bio-ferments is a plus
Exposure to  cost optimization and commercial batches is a plus

Qualification:

M.Sc. in Microbiology / Biotechnology / Industrial Microbiology
3 years  experience in  microbial product development and scale-up
