Overview

Omega Technical Services is seeking a WIPP Acceptable Knowledge (AK) Specialist to support the Acceptable Knowledge Organization within the Contact-Handled Transuranic Programs Department at Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho Falls, .

This position is contingent upon contract award and/or project funding. Candidates may be identified, screened, and submitted prior to award. Employment offers and start dates are dependent upon successful contract award, funding authorization, and client approval.

The successful candidate will extract, analyze, interpret and summarize Process Knowledge and Acceptable Knowledge information from multiple production, historical and document databases. This position supports investigations, issue resolution, waste-container qualification, regulatory compliance and technical-document development associated with contact-handled transuranic waste.

The selected candidate must be capable of qualifying as a Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Acceptable Knowledge Expert. An AKE is primarily responsible for evaluating, summarizing and documenting historical information involving waste generators and generation processes at INL, as well as off-site generators that transferred transuranic waste to the laboratory.

Responsibilities
  • Run, develop and maintain Structured Query Language scripts to extract required information from multiple databases.
  • Analyze, clean, organize and format data using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.
  • Write database queries using Microsoft SQL Server, including T-SQL, Oracle SQL or an equivalent query language.
  • Evaluate waste-container information to determine eligibility for specific treatment processes, waste streams and disposition pathways.
  • Collect, analyze, summarize and document information concerning waste-generating facilities, generation processes, physical and chemical characteristics, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Enter and maintain historical-record information in tracking databases.
  • Develop clear, concise and technically accurate documentation.
  • Interpret and apply applicable requirements, including:
    • Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Waste Acceptance Criteria
    • WIPP Waste Analysis Plan
    • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act requirements
    • Toxic Substances Control Act requirements
  • Initiate Nonconformance Reports when necessary and assist with resolving Acceptable Knowledge issues.
  • Support the annual WIPP audit.
  • Respond to departmental data and information requests accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Interface with internal IEC organizations, including Document Services and Information Technology.
  • Coordinate with external organizations and other Department of Energy entities to facilitate incoming waste shipments.
  • Interact with Carlsbad Field Office and DOE Idaho personnel regarding contact-handled transuranic waste activities.
  • Assist with the training, mentoring and qualification of other Acceptable Knowledge Experts.
  • Manage multiple assignments and priorities while completing work efficiently and on schedule.
  • Perform other Acceptable Knowledge duties, including research, report development, information collection and audit support.
Education Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in data analytics; or a Bachelor’s degree in science or mathematics with at least four years of applicable data-analytics experience.
